Hidden Gate: Fourth Wall Mayhem

Rock Lee sees all the new people and sees a challenge. He rushes back and forth, looking to perform whatever tasks are asked of him by the newcomers to have them settle in. He can show up pretty much anywhere, attempting to investigate these mysterious wingless people.

And here's Kurt. He knows something weird's going on while his holo-watch stops working. He tries to be careful in how he goes outside - after all, all the people recognizing him from a stay in Luceti that he doesn't remember is weird. But it's possible to catch him while at a snack raid at the grocery store, or trying to look cool and stoic at various vantage points throughout the village.

And Ralph is torn. Part of him wants to lock himself in his room, away from all the noise. But then he gets his hopes up about running into someone he knows, even just someone who'll know what he means about life being a video game. So he'll curiously poke his way around the village to see who he can find - and to try to keep Vanellope out of trouble.

[Kay so, he sort of got filled in that Ralph and Vanellope were here too, so it doesn't surprise him too much when he finds Ralph later on in the plaza. He's not hard to miss really...]

Ralph?

[He still can't believe they were all here. Usually they make plans before game hopping together during after hours like this. :/]

[That voice.

He never imagined he'd miss it. But here he is, turning slowly to face the source?]

Felix?

[Look down buddy.]

Ralph! Good to see you're all right, and game hopping again without telling any of us. [It sounded like Felix was cross with Ralph, but he was smiling. He had a feeling Ralph wasn't responsible this time and was just teasing.]

[gonnawreckit]

[He looks down and man is that a sight for sore eyes. He holds back from a full-on hug, instead clapping a big hand on his shoulder.]

If it's that simple a problem, why don't you just fix it? [He says with a laugh.] It's uh... kinda nice to see you too, y'know?

[ohmyland]

[Knee buckling shoulder pat. He can handle that. He'd give Ralph a hug had they not just saw each other a few hours ago. Technically.]

Well, it's only a problem if you don't get back before the arcade opens. [And you wouldn't run off on him and the Nicelanders again, right?] Which, after hearing how long you've been here from Miss Calhoun, I was hoping maybe you could explain how that works to me.

It doesn't matter, Felix. Home's paused here. It's - that's really the only way I know to explain it. We don't have to worry about getting home in time.

Uncle Kurt

[lightningclaws]

[ There is a teenage girl flying low around town. She should look familiar to Kurt! But she also looks like she's looking for someone. Something? Hmm... ]

[Nightcrawler does indeed spot someone. And she looks oddly like Storm. But younger?

So he bamfs over to a roof ahead of her flight path and attempts to wave her over.]

[ She spots the waving figure soon enough! And since there was no one else airborne, she makes her way over... And once she gets closer, she does a bit of a doubletake. ]

Ah - Uncle Kurt...?

Hold the phone.

Uncle?!

[lightningclaws]

[ Did his voice just squeak ]

... Oh, I get it. You're younger, in this universe? Is that it?

[wildbluevagner]

I'm as young as I always was! But, ah... we might have some universal crossover going on here. ...Or time travel?

[This is so weird. She's definitely not Storm. And is a... niece of his?]

[lightningclaws]

The former, I think. [ She puts her hands on her hips, huffing clearly frustrated. She might not be her mother, but she's picked up a lot of her mannerisms! ] This wasn't supposed to happen! We were headed for Earth!!

[It is almost like a weird mirror. And it's hard to deny that she's related to Storm in some way. But Kurt tries to maintain his cool to make it easier on this newcomer.]

Earth can be surprisingly tricky to get to, especially in a place like this. Must've taken a wrong turn at a cosmic Albquerque!

[lightningclaws]

[ Despite her first instinct of asking what an Albquerque was, or her second instinct of saying that opening a portal with Thor's hammer didn't merit turning any corners, she laughs a little. Well, it was more of a giggle. ]

Whatever you say, Uncle Kurt.

But, um, where exactly is "this place", anyway? [A beat, and then, hopefully:] Are Mom and Dad here?

This place? It's called Luceti. We're on a world that pulls people from other worlds in. But see, the thing is... I'm sorry, but I don't know you. O-or who your parents are.

[lightningclaws]

Another one? Ugh. [Sighing a little. Just when she thought she'd escaped that whole shebang.]

[But at his last words she startles... Then slaps her forehead.]

Right, forgot, you're younger! [... Suddenly she hopes her parents aren't here, if it means meeting teenaged versions of them, oh.] Um, I'm Kendall Munroe-Logan. My mom and dad were Storm and Wolverine.

[Still that tone of hesitation.]

They're not your age [her age!] too, are they? Perhaps it'll be better if I don't show myself...

N-no. They're older and around the same age, but, uh... I just... I never imagined... them. [A look of grossed outness.]

But you shouldn't hide yourself. You're still one of us, after all.

Yeah, they get that a lot too, even now. They're not really the most conventional parents either, I guess. Everyone always thought it was kind of weird.

Well, everyone except the Professor. And you, Uncle Kurt. [She smiles a bit.]

Though I'm not sure about being one of you. I mean, even back home you guys wouldn't let any of us do much of anything with out powers...

[Actual parents? That's so weird. It was easier to imagine her just coming from a one night stand, given what he knows of Logan... even if that was still very unpleasent mental imagery.]

Me? This may be something I'm going to have to grow into.

I'm not sure if I understand, but... we're all on the same page here. You're free to do what you want.

[There is a Swedish Chef making his way through the plaza in obvious distress, wantonly swinging a meat cleaver about as he searches for a kitchen.

Approach?]

Excuse me, sir! Are you inviting me to combat?!

[borks]

[Combat? Oh, dear, no. Of course, he isn't the best at communicating this, as it comes across with more cleaver-waving.]

Noooo! Take meee tooo dee keeetchin!

[niceguypose]

Oh? I see. [He faces away and assumes a piggybacking position.] Get on. I will take you there!

[borks]

[He sees no reason why this should not be the best choice for transportation. The Muppet flings himself upon the young man's back.]

Onwerrrd! Onwerrrd tooo dee keeetchin!

Yes! Let us proceed, sir!

[And he races off at top speeds through the village.]

[He's cruisin' through the aisles of the grocery store, perusin' for something tasty, something...more. --Hey, that would make totally awesome song lyrics. If he can remember it when he goes home, he'll have to tell Nick.

When he turns the corner, he sees a familiar face. Who could forget it? He sighs an exaggerated sigh of relief.] Oh. My. Krunchy Kats. [Walkin' up to you all friendly-like, Kurt.] It's good to see you, dude! How have you been?

[Something about this person recognizing him seems altogether... odder than the others.]

Sorry, do I... know you?

Come on, you don't remember? I know my mug isn't as memorable as yours, 'cause I don't have the whole blue fuzzy thing going on, but... [Here he strikes a jazz-hands-y kind of pose, like that might spark some recognition.]

[As Rock Lee is going about his business, he hears a sudden and excited gasp.]

S-Sir! You sir! Those green clothes... determined eyebrows. Are you perhaps... a fairy!?

[And green wings, even.]

A- a fairy? But I do not possess any magical abilities that I know of...

[But Rock Lee eyes this strange fellow's tights and gets an opposing assumption: could this man be some peer or fellow student of Gai-Sensei?]

Aha! A fairy in training! [Tingle gives a sly wink of understanding.] You've come to learn from Tingle to become a fairy! How clever of you. I am the expert after all.

[ Someone who knows about life being a video game? Well, GLaDOS is no longer constrained by that pesky "4th wall"... ]

Oh, wonderful. I was so looking forward to coming back to this place. After all, running in circles myself is much better than watching someone else run in circles, getting another life every time they screw up, pushing forward tenaciously until they reach the end or give up...

But I'm sure you know all about that.

Sheesh! GLaDOS, don't sneak up on me like that! [He rubs at his hair nervously. It's not often he sees the machine around Game Central Station, but just enough for basic familiarity.] And yeah, I know what you mean. I feel like a real player character here. Kind of a change of pace, but also kind of annoying, too. I hear extra lives work really weirdly in this game, too. Not that I wanna try out.

You know, this is a one in a million opportunity for you. So you really should try it out, just to see. You know. For science.

After all, what's the worst that could happen? If she could do all that damage while mute, brain damaged, and... generously sized, whatever happens to you can't be that bad at all.
