Sixth Gate: Rock Lee's Springtime of Love [Action/Written]

[Lee had been going about his daily routine as usual - or seemingly so - on this brand new day. But there were some omissions he had not noticed; he did not check the journal to see if Sakura had any new messages, nor did he look out for her at all as he ran throughout the village. And then? His jog came to a sudden halt as he caught Izumo Kamiki out of the corner of his eye. He found himself collapsing to the ground with the sudden rush of feeling.

Those eyebrows... why had he not noticed how beautiful they were? And immediately, he thought of other things that suddenly seemed compelling about her. The way she cared for her fox, the romance novels she seemed interested in reading... There was no choice. He would have to romance her. So he ran off to the flower shop and the library to make preparations.

Later that day, Lee could be found jogging through the village in search of Izumo. The difference? He is now balancing a titanic vase on his head, which is filled with dozens of flowers. On top of that, there's a romance novel sticking out of the pocket of his flak jacket. He is young and in love, and he couldn't feel better.]

[And at some point in the day, Lee sees fit to write a simple message in the journal.]

Youth is love.

[See, she was crushed. Now that little slip of the tongue has her pissed. He's rejecting her and he's making fun of her face?]

WHAT WAS THAT?!

[Okay, that was a shriek. And if he's not quick on his feet, there'll be a punch right after it. There's a woman scorned, and then there's a kunoichi scorned.]

[He didn't catch what she said- so he freaks out, wondering how he could have enraged her. It's a struggle to remember what he ever saw in her.]

[Of course there's little time to think that because suddenly he's being punched. He doesn't block it, but he does resist enough to not get send flying back as much as usual and regains his footing.]

This- this is not the time for sparring.

Oh no, I'm not sparring. You got something to say about my forehead?

[If it were any other time, she'd keep going, but right now, she almost wants to rush and apologize, or make sure he's all right. But of course he is - he's a tough guy, that's what she likes about him, and she didn't hit him that hard.

It's just painful, having someone she's suddenly so intrigued with -- why didn't she notice him more before this, anyway? -- be so nasty about it.]

I was not intending to! I have been trying to avoid that subject in order to be sensitive. But, if you want honesty... I have never found it to be so unsightly.

Unsightly?

[Ouch. Ouch, man. And words like that are pushing her out of the defensive fury and into straight-up hurt.]

You never seemed to mind before...

[And of course, as soon as she gets interested, he's not. Is this just doomed to be the story of her love life?]

Did I? I suppose I... [He squints, trying to remember. But it's so hard know to picture the way he used to feel. He keeps on being distracted by some strange yearning. There's love for him out there, he knows it, and it's not from the person standing before him.] I must have changed in that sense. I cannot feel the same forever. I am sure I did not always find that hair to be so blindly pink, either.

But I am sure there are other opinions you can take greater stock in than my own, Sakura. You always have, after all.

[Yeah, calling her out on how she used to act. It's a fair shot, but it doesn't make it easy to take. She winces and looks away.]

I'm... I'm sorry for how I used to treat you, Lee.

[Is that what this is all about? But he wouldn't be so cruel about it if it were... he's never seemed like the type. But maybe he's changed, too, just as her attitude has.

She'll retreat for now. But surely there's a way to change his mind! To show him that she can be what he wants.]

[Of course I get this while considering making apologies into a negative trigger]

It's... [...okay? He never would have thought to call her out on it normally, with how grateful he was about how she turned her attitude around on him. But now... so many things about her just seem so repulsive, that he felt so little guilt in doing so. And even with the way she's treated him better, he's still felt his opinion held little weight to her in the end.

But he doesn't finish his sentence. He closes her eyes and lets her go. Instead, he goes to find a way to fulfill that yearning, with no remorse in just letting go of an old crush.]

[Bwahaha even better!

He's not even finishing his sentence for her. Not going to accept her apology, when she wants it to mean so much...

She just stares after him, eyes gone wide with hurt. Having yet someone else she's set her heart on walk away from her like this, it's unbearable.

She turns and walks away slowly, trying to fight back the sudden blurring in her eyes.]
